The CDC estimated in 2010 that more than 2.3 million older adults suffered non-fatal falls in the US with an associated cost of 30.4 billion dollars. While physical injuries associated with unintentional falls is easily recognized, the psychological costs are less obvious and often more persistent. Following a fall, up to 50% of people report a subsequent fear of falling with self-imposed restriction of healthy activities, resulting in further functional loss and significant psychological depression.

In today’s health care climate of reduced payment and services, holistic treatment paradigms focused on people as whole beings and reaffirming the value of human relationships becomes necessary for true healing.

The ancient practice of Tai Chi is typified by slow, graceful, and controlled movements, and has been shown repeatedly in health-related research to enhance balance, prevent falls, improve psychological health, and ameliorate chronic diseases. More than just a movement practice, Tai Chi is also a deeply held philosophy advocating balance and harmony in all areas of life.

The Rehabilitative Tai Chi for Balance Enhancement and Improved Functional Outcomes certification course focuses on a comprehensive set of Tai Chi principles including the therapeutic use of mindfulness, functionally progressive form practices, and manual guiding techniques. Following RQTC certifications, students are endowed with a robust philosophy and skill set which allows them to become the BodyMind specialists that naturally radiate healing wherever they go.

The Rehabilitative Tai Chi for Balance Enhancement and Improved Functional Outcomes certification course is intended for rehabilitation professionals including PT, PTA, OT, OTA, LMT, ATC, Nurses, and Tai Chi Instructors with a focus on bodymind physiology education and multidisciplinary treatment applications through the practice of Tai Chi especially as they relate to falls prevention and improving chronic disease outcomes.
